Dardanely Summer Palace – a Rococo Musical Jewel in Spiš

The Dardanely Summer Palace in Markušovce is one of the finest examples of Rococo architecture in Slovakia. This elegant palace building was constructed in 1777–1778 for the Mariássy family and continues to captivate visitors with its rich stucco decoration, mythological frescoes, and unique collection of keyboard musical instruments.

An Architectural Jewel in the Heart of a French Park

The summer palace stands on the third and highest terrace of the landscaped garden at Markušovce Castle. Its façade is divided by large windows and pilasters adorned with stucco ornaments featuring garlands, fruit baskets, and musical instruments. A massive tympanum at the top of the building bears the Mariássy family coat of arms.

Keyboard Musical Instruments Exhibition

Inside the palace is the only museum of keyboard instruments in Slovakia. After a comprehensive modernization in 2024, the exhibition offers a fresh design and new interactive technologies. Visitors can admire rare historical instruments – from harpsichords and pianos to harmoniums – and learn about their development and construction. Occasional classical music concerts are also held here, providing an unforgettable experience thanks to the hall's exceptional acoustics.

Mythological Hall with Frescoes

The dominant space in the palace is the ceremonial hall on the first floor. Its walls and ceiling are decorated with magnificent frescoes depicting scenes from Greek mythology. These works of art create an impressive atmosphere and are the pride of the entire building.
